As a resident of Blandford Forum, I

often hear people complaining that there is little to do in and around our

small town.  However, I have found

while walking around the town in this beautiful weather that this is not the

case.  Many of the local pubs and

cafes play host to evening events such as open-mic nights, live bands and

football nights, and there is plenty to do just outside of Blandford as well.  One event that is coming up this summer

that caught my eye was Music and Merriment on the Rings.

Last year, Spetisbury Rings, near

Blandford Forum, played host to the very first Music and Merriment on the Rings

– a charity event showcasing local music, entertainment, food and family

fun.  The event, raising money for

The Weldmar Hospice Care Trust, raised over £2000 last year and plans to do

even better this year!

Organising the event are Tim and

Jenny Wood, Sarah Lamb, Martin Garnish and Emily and Becca D’Silva.  At this year’s event visitors can:

- listen to live local bands such

as: Bel Casino, The 0809 Band and Bliss (plus many more!)

- visit the UK’s only inflatable

country pub!

- go zorbing!

- visit the kid’s club (which

allows children to take part in arts and crafts and games

- view stalls showcasing work from

local artists and photographers

- watch circus performers

- plus much more!

There will also be a Main Stage and

a Hay Bale Stage.  The Hay Bale

Stage will be used for jamming sessions and open-mic entertainment.

Visitors can also see a hot air

balloon display and enjoy food from international food stalls as well as

traditional English food.

Ticket prices are:

- Adult: £15

- Child: £7

- OAP: £10

These prices will rise after August

as demand goes up so get your tickets early to avoid disappointment!

For more details, see the website www.musicandmerriment.co.uk

This would be a great day out for

all the family and a good way to support the local community and

charities.  With local music, art

and food on offer this is a truly local, community experience that is bound to

benefit all.
