Detectives are appealing for information after two safes containing £20,000 in cash were stolen in rural North Dorset.
Sometime between the late evening of Thursday, 30 September and the early hours of Friday, 1 October 2010, offenders broke into an industrial unit in the village of Hermitage – between Dorchester and Sherborne – and stole a large quantity of cash and equipment.
The unit, which belongs to a 36-year-old Sherborne man, was entered through a front door.
Detective Constable Gerald Marchant, of Weymouth CID, said: “The offenders stole a large amount of tools and equipment, including Dewalt saws, Makita saws, chain saws, a laser level, a core cutter, a Euro Welder, floodlights, a wacker plate, Snap On tools, a Dell laptop, a Sony Ericsson mobile phone and a Fuji digital camera.
“They also stole two locked safes containing over £20,000.
“I’d like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident and from anyone who saw someone acting suspiciously in the Hermitage area between the late evening of Thursday, 30 September and 7am on Friday, 1 October 2010.
“The victim has lost a substantial amount of equipment and money and I am determined to find those responsible.
“All calls will be treated in the strictest of confidence.”
Anyone with information should contact Dorset Police in confidence on 01305 222 222 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.

I wonder if this cash was covered in that invisible dye. Such a great way to catch the crims. Mind you, it should've been banked.
