Blandford Railway Arches May Be Knocked Down.

While many of us walk over the Stour Meadows on a daily or weekly basis – walking our dogs, going for a run, walking to the skate-park, to Tesco, or just going to feed the ducks - perhaps what we fail to notice are the railway arches that are built over the River Stour. These arches once made up part of the Blandford Railway system and are a historical landmark of the town. However, the council are thinking of knocking down the arches.

Blandford Railway Arches
Just over two weeks ago, in conjunction with a day of celebrating local gardens, local people set up a garden by the Blandford Railway Arches in order to attract attention to the arches and to the threat that poses them. Without the arches the town loses one of its links to a time in its history.
With the Blandford Fire having destroyed much of the original town, forcing it to be rebuilt entirely within the Georgian period, the town is already rich in history and heritage. By destroying the arches we are losing more of what makes our town unique and of the few remaining links to the town’s heritage.
There doesn’t even seem to be a point to the demolishing of the arches. It would not benefit the town and seems like it would be a waste of the council’s money. So, can anyone think of a good reason why the council should demolish the arches?
