Energy costs are rising and with winter on the way, heating bills are set to skyrocket. But with a little spending now, you can make big savings on winter fuel bills.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, half of heat loss in a typical home is lost through the walls and the loft, so it's worth checking to see if your insulation is up to scratch.

Cavity wall, loft insulation and draught proofing can make an enormous difference to your heating bills. You should have 270mm of insulation in your loft as a minimum - adding this to an uninsulated loft could save around £145 according to the Trust's estimation.

Blandford Forum isn't the best endowed town when it comes to DIY shops, it's Homebase or ... well, it's Homebase. Luckily they've got a special offer on insulation at the moment so head down there and fix the roof while the sun is shining!
