Concept Drawing for ASDA in Blandford Forum
The supermarket is to be a part of a larger business centre - a "phased development of low-cost, flexible business units" that will be arranged around what is described as a 'mid-sized' ASDA supermarket with cafe and petrol station.
A bus service to link the development with the town and other outlying business parks is also proposed.
The development appears to be a response to plans to expand the Tesco supermarket at the southern end of town to twice its current size.
Oliver Jones, Property Communications Manager for ASDA said, "While we're aware of Tesco's plans to make their Blandford store even bigger, we hope that, given the choice the local community would rather see a new ASDA store."
As previously reported the development is promising to bring 320 jobs to the area, 240 within ASDA and the rest coming from, "young, entrepreneurial businesses as well as established companies," attracted to the park.

Come on Asda !!!! we need more employment in Blandford, and unless you want a world where Tesco dominates every town in the Country open up to competition.

ReportBlandford isn't a big enough place to competitively have an Asda, a gigantic Tesco, a Somerfield and all the independant shops that are already struggling to survive. I personally enjoy walking past Somerfield and shopping at the greengrocers opposite instead - that'll teach them!

ReportI don't think the shop keepers in town are going to thank ASDA for pulling even more shoppers away from the high street. The timing couldn't be worse.

ReportI'm not against developments in general but I don't really see the need for this ASDA.
