2012 is the year of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and plans for celebration have already begun. The town's Beacon which will be positioned at Larksmeade, will be lit on Monday 4th June 2012 and is now officially registered at www.diamondjubileebeacons.co.uk

The aim is to get at least 2,012 beacons lit the length and breadth of the country, including the Isle of Man, the Commonwealth and other countries. Only Queen Victoria has previously managed a 60 year reign in this country, so it's really quite an event.

Stay tuned for more information about Diamond Jubilee celebrations, we'll be letting you know about everything that's going on in and around Blandford to mark 60 years of Queen Elisabeth II's reign.

There wasn't much going on in Blandford for the Royal Wedding last year so I wonder how this will do? Maybe the beacon giving it a focal point will help?

Not really. Most of the previous monarchs have had to deal with invasions and assassinations and revolts. I bet every monarch from here on out does 60 years easy. Just because she's one of the first doesn't mean she hasn't had an easy time of it.

Come off it Bennyfingers, she's only the second monarch to make it 60 years - that's got to impress even you?

I'll be celebrating in the only truly British way - by keeping my jubilation very much to myself.
